Work to repair damages to two transformers at an electricity substation in Alrode, Alberton continues today.

This is the fourth day that technicians are working to repair damage caused by theft at the facility in the early hours of Friday morning, causing a power outage to Alrode as well as the hostels, Basothong, Mpilisweni and Phenduka sections in Thokoza.

Last night, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality supplied power to the affected areas in Thokoza from one of the transformers at the substation, which was not damaged.

“From 07:00 the Metro will once again begin to supply power on a three-hour rotational cycle to these areas in order to equitably share the available electricity capacity,” said Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“Residents and businesses are assured that the technicians will continue to work around the clock until is fully restored to all areas.”

The municipality apologised for any inconvenience caused by the outage.
