KwaZulu-Natal police are searching for the attackers of a Catholic sister who was found raped and killed in Ixopo, they said on Friday.

Sister Getrud Tiefebacher, 86, at Sacred Heart Home Convent in the Roman Catholic Church, was found dead in her room a week ago, said Major Thulani Zwane.
“We are appealing to anyone with information about the whereabouts of the murder suspects to urgently contact Warrant Officer Thembelihle Hlangu on 07682829582,” added Zwane.
Zwane said people who were taken in for questioning at the time of the incident were later released.
“It is alleged the victim was at her residence when she was approached by suspects who allegedly tied her hands with a type writer cord. She was also covered with a towel over her face, causing the victim to suffocate,” he said.
Zwane said foreign currency was allegedly taken from Tiefebacher’s room.
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnya Ngobeni has set up a Provincial Task Team to investigate the case.
“We condemn such brutal murder of an innocent elderly woman at Ixopo. Our detectives are following up some leads that might lead to the arrest of the suspects.” Ngobeni said
