Two die in Butterworth shack fire

A man and a woman died when a shack caught fire in Skiet informal settlement, Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

“The incident took place on Thursday at about 7.30pm. The neighbours saw the shack in flames and they suspected that the fire might have been started by a candle,” said Captain Jackson Manatha.

The two died instantly and no foul play was suspected, he said. “The identify of the deceased is still being withheld until their next of kin are informed of their deaths.”
