Police investigations are ongoing after a woman was followed home from a local shopping centre and robbed inside her complex in Magaliessig, Johannesburg.

According to Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, the woman was on her way home from a local shopping centre at about 3pm on Sunday. Upon entering her complex, a white Hyundai i20 drove up behind her. Three armed suspects then got out of the vehicle, Fourways Review reported.

The woman hooted, and her husband came out of the house. The couple were then robbed of jewellery they had on their person, including two wedding rings and a watch. No injuries were reported.

Muthan said the case is under investigation and has been linked to a similar robbery case that happened in March, in which a 63-year-old victim was robbed in Fourways. He encouraged anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact the Douglasdale police control room on 011-699-1333.

In February, a man was robbed at gunpoint in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal after he withdrew R70 000 from an ATM and was followed home by two assailants.

Upon reaching his home, the man was approached by two men who pointed firearms at him and demanded he hand over the money.

The suspects also demanded a bag belonging to the victim’s wife, which contained R10 000 and a cellphone.

Amanzimtoti police communications officer Captain Charlene van der Spuy said the men then fled the scene in a blue hatchback VW Polo.
