Five suspects are being sought by police after a hitchhiking couple was attacked, robbed and the woman raped on the toll road near Marburg, near Port Shepstone, in KwaZulu-Natal

The man, 46, and his wife, 42, were thumbing a lift home to Port Elizabeth when they were accosted by the men at about 7.30pm on April 4, South Coast Herald reported.

Police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum said the men tied the husband up with shoelaces and then raped his wife in front of him. They then made off with the couple’s cellphones, rings and clothing.

The men were reportedly wearing dark hoodies and caps, while one of them had on a grey shirt.

This after a family was brutally attacked at their home in Winterveldt, outside Pretoria last week.

Acting commander of the Loate Police Station Colonel Jan Nkomo said an armed robber broke into the family’s house at about 2am and proceeded to shoot and kill the father before shooting the mother in the stomach.

The suspect then allegedly raped their two teenage daughters, aged 15 and 16. He finally stole some valuables from the house and fled. Cases of murder, attempted murder, rape and house robbery are being investigated by Loate police.
