Tarlton police spokesperson Constable Lucky Matombe said at about 10.50am yesterday, the 39-year-old mother of the twins sent a text message to her husband informing him she was going to kill herself and their twins, Randfontein Herald reported.
“One of her neighbours noticed a strange behaviour of the mother and contacted the police. The police responded, and on their arrival they found the twins had already died. During their preliminary investigations, they noticed that the mother started to vomit,” added Matombe.
Matombe said the mother tried to kill herself by stabbing herself several times in her upper body in the presence of the police. One of the officers tried to take the knife away from her, but unfortunately she got injured during the process and was taken to the nearest hospital.
The motive for the killing remains unknown.
The woman was taken to the nearest hospital and will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
This after a man set himself and his four-year-old grandchild alight in his car in Azaadville, Krugersdorp, on Gauteng’s West Rand last Tuesday.
Provincial police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said the boy’s father went to work with his wife when he received a call from his father-in-law, who said he had the boy and was going to kill him by setting alight a car with the boy inside.
“Police were notified, and they searched for the car. They found it in Azaadville, but they were too late, as the car already was on fire. They were burned beyond recognition,” added Makhubela.
