A man in his 40s died after he was hit by a car last night on the N11, about 50km outside Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics arrived on the scene, the car was parked on the side of the road. The lifeless body of the man was a few metres away.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that the man had already succumbed to his severe injuries and he was declared dead. The driver of the vehicle fortunately did not sustain any injuries,” said Meiring.

“The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”

In a separate incident, seven people were injured last night after their vehicle overturned on the R25 near Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics found the light motor vehicle lying on its side in a field of mealies. Seven people were sitting around the vehicle.

“On assessment, paramedics found that the seven patients had sustained only minor injuries. Fortunately no one sustained any fatal injuries in the accident,” said Meiring.

“Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to Tembisa Hospital for further care. The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities are investigating,” he added.
