A man has died after falling off the back of a bakkie along Lochiel Road in Garsfontein, Pretoria on Friday night, paramedics confirmed.

A report from the scene indicated the man was standing in the back of the bakkie. After falling off he landed under the wheels of the vehicle, Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the ground, unresponsive. Tragically he had died due to the extensive injuries that he sustained,” said Botha.

In a separate incident, eight people were injured, three seriously so, after a car and a taxi collided at the intersection of Commissioner and Market streets in Krugersdorp.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frame of the taxi. The other vehicle reportedly left the scene. After medics treated the injured at the scene they transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required,” said Botha.

“Exact detail to the cause of the accident is still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation.”
