A taxi driver has passed away after the vehicle he was driving crashed against a bridge on the N2 southbound before Inanda Road, Durban at about 9pm last night.

Rescue Care operations director Garrith Jamieson said emergency services were called to the accident scene and were horrified with what they saw when they arrived at the scene.

“A taxi had collided with a bridge on the N2 south before Inanda Road. However, after impact the taxi tore in two pieces. The two pieces were totally separate from each other in the centre medium,” said Jamieson.

“Unfortunately, the driver had sustained fatal injuries, and there was nothing further paramedics could do to assist him. He was declared deceased on the scene.”

He added it remained unclear what had caused the single vehicle to lose control and crash into the bridge, and that police investigations were ongoing.
