EFF leader Julius Malema is expected to address party members vying to be a part of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Student Representative Council this afternoon.

It is also expected that Malema will touch base on the issue of financial aid for needy students during his address, scheduled for 4pm.

In recent months, students have embarked on strikes, demanding that the National Students Financial Aids Scheme (NSFAS) give answers on why some deserving and qualifying students have not been receiving any funds.

The strikes also turned violent, with university staff members barred from entering the premises by irate protesters who blockaded the main entrances.

Some VUT students took to Facebook to rave about Malema’s visit, while others asked why is he only coming now ahead of the SRC elections, and did he not come during the students’ strikes.
