Two men have been arrested for armed robbery at a taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

The men, aged 23 and 21, allegedly robbed another man on the corner of Klein and De Villiers streets on Saturday, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said.

“The victim was walking carrying his two bags when two trolley pushers approached him.

“They wanted to carry his luggage by force but the victim refused [and] one of them threatened him with a knife and demanded money.”

The 26-year-old gave the men R40 and they left.

Shortly after the incident he saw police officers and alerted them to what happened.

The two men were arrested and the 26-year-old’s money was recovered.

The men are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
