A double murder case has been opened after a 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing two victims at Emalangeni area, Ndwedwe, in KwaZulu-Natal.

It is believed a man, his girlfriend, and their daughter were in the house yesterday at about 11.30pm when a suspect kicked the door open.

The suspect shot and killed the man, 24, and his three-year-old daughter. The woman escaped unharmed, police said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot after the incident.

Police were called to attend the scene, and on arrival, they found AK47 rifle cartridges.

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

The suspect will appear in the Ndwandwe Magistrates’s Court tomorrow to face two counts of murder.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested for the murder of a woman and her daughter in Tzaneen, Limpopo.

He had been on the run since Tuesday after he allegedly shot dead a mother and her daughter in Sasekani, Ritavi, said Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

“He allegedly stormed into 63-year-old Mary Mangena’s home, and when she asked what was happening, shot at her and her 40-year-old daughter, Hermina Mangena,” added Ngoepe.

“When the police arrived at the crime scene, both [women] were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds throughout their bodies,” Ngoepe said.
