The weekend recap

The weekend only consists of two days, but a lot can happen within these days. People hold their celebration events, some bury their loved ones and some choose to rest and prepare for the following week. This is what happened over the weekend

1. Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi’s funeral was laid to rest on Sunday in West Park Cemetery. The funeral, graced by City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Parks Tau, saw the South African arts fraternity united.

2. The Minister of Public Service and Administration Collins Chabane was killed in a car accident early on Sunday morning. The accident happened around 1am on the N1 Polokwane. He died instantly with his two body guards.

3. The remains of Moses Kotane and another struggle stalwart JB Marks were repatriated to South Africa from Russia two weeks ago. Kotane, the former SA Communist Party (SACP) general secretary and ANC treasurer general died of stroke in 1978. Marks, also the former SACP general secretary and ANC’s treasurer general, died in 1972 of a heart attack. The remains of Kotane were reburied on Saturday in  Pelle village outside Rustenburg, North West.

4. Six people including a toddler were killed, and four others were critically injured during a shooting at Chief Albert Luthuli informal settlement in Crystal Park, Benoni.

5. Eleven people, including a millionaire businessman, were arrested after police found hijacked steel, petrol and trucks at a factory in Leondale, Gauteng police said on Sunday.
