Operations have resumed at an Absa Bank in the west of Pretoria after a bomb scare earlier on Thursday afternoon.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said a bank official in Van Der Hoff Street had received an anonymous call just before midday that the bank would explode “in two minutes”. The bank was evacuated, police were alerted, and the K9 and bomb disposal units were dispatched to the scene, said Msimango.

“After conducting a thorough sweep of the premises, the units confirmed there was no threat on the premises,” added Msimango.

The building was declared safe and was reopened just before 2pm. No arrests have yet been made but police investigations are underway.
