The suspect, Sphamandla Siyanda Hlophe, allegedly stabbed Thembelani Msomi in a tavern on Friday night. The man died from his wounds in hospital on Sunday, South Coast Herald reported.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said it is believed the same teenager had a knife fight with Sibusiso Gasa, 23, also in Gamalakhe, on Sunday.

Gasa went to a nearby house for help, but he died before medics arrived, added Mfeka.

The suspect appeared in the Ramsgate Court yesterday.

He will remain in custody until a formal bail application is made on March 10.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for hacking another teenager to death with an axe in Zingqayi village, Butterworth, in Eastern Cape following an argument in January.

The two had attended a traditional ceremony in the village. As they were leaving around 6pm, they exchanged unpleasant jokes with one another, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

“The one boy went home to fetch an axe,” added Manatha.

He allegedly returned and attacked the boy, also aged 15, who was later taken to hospital. He died upon arrival.
