Elderly man drowns in KZN

A man in his 60s drowned while fishing in Umdloti, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday afternoon, paramedics said.

“A report from the scene indicates that the man in his 60s was fishing from the rocks when he slipped and fell into the surf, life guards swam around and managed to get to the man when he reached back line,” Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.

Paramedics arrived to find the life guards trying to resuscitate the man, who was from Mpumalanga.

“Paramedics started with advanced life support resuscitation and continued for some time. Tragically despite their fervent effort the patient was declared dead at the scene.”
