Council boss suspended

One of South Africa’s longest-serving municipal managers has been suspended on suspicion he stole more than R200 million during his 17-year-long tenure.

Manager Tim Maake has been accused of rigging tenders and massive embezzlement of municipal funds.

He has been blamed for illegally emptying the municipality’s coffers, leaving no money to pay staff salaries.
