A 64-year-old man from Betania, near Izotsha, in KwaZulu-Natal appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his 11-year-old daughter.

The matter came to light in December last year when the girl told an aunt about her ordeal, South Coast Herald reported.

Investigations indicated the man, who was arrested last Wednesday, allegedly started raping his daughter in January last year.

“According to a statement by the girl, her father raped her almost every day [until November],” police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said.

Mfeka appealed to the community to immediately report crimes of a sexual nature.

“The only way we can stop these crimes is when the person is exposed and arrested,” he added.

The man remained in police custody and is expected to appear in court again tomorrow.

Investigations by the Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are ongoing.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his teenage daughter in Butterworth, Eastern Cape, in December.

The 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped in May while her mother was away at a vigil.

She allegedly kept the incident a secret until her mother noticed her stomach was growing, at which point the teen revealed she had been raped by her father.
