“It is alleged that this morning at about 11am, the security guards came to collect money at a bank in the Bedford Centre when they were confronted by an unknown number of suspects,” said Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale.

“A shootout ensued wherein two security guards, three customers and two suspects were injured. Police recovered an AK 47 on the scene.”
Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said the patients were all treated at the scene and transported to various hospitals after they had sustained gunshot wounds.
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Nana Radebe referred queries to Ekurhuleni emergency services and metro police.
Bedford Centre management told The Citizen that the incident involved a shoot-out between security company SBV and robbers.
“An official statement will be released as soon as we have info from police,” the centre said.
Investigations are ongoing.
