Four metro police officials have been arrested after allegedly robbing a spaza shop in Soshanguve, while on duty.

The officials were arrested by senior officials of the metro police this morning, when they reported for duty at the Mamelodi branch where they were stationed.

It’s alleged the four robbed the owner of the spaza shop of money and airtime, yesterday morning.

Spokesman Isaac Mahamba said while the robbery was in progress, members of the public had noticed the transgression.

“The community started gathering and the cops sped off. The number plates of the marked metro vehicles were taken and the incident reported to police and us.”

Mahamba said a criminal investigation was underway and the officials were expected to appear in court this week.
