Patricia de Lille no longer a DA member

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that its Federal Executive resolved last night to endorse the finding of its Federal Legal Commission that Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille’s membership had ceased as of 26 April.

On the day, De Lille was on 702 with Eusebius McKaiser. She on two occasions indicated she intended to resign from the DA.

During a press briefing this morning, the party’s federal chairperson, James Selfe, said the DA Constitution provides, in section 3.5.1.2 that: “A member ceases to be a member when he or she 3.5.1.2 publicly declares his or her intention to resign and/or publicly declares his or her resignation from the Party.”

“We wish Ms de Lille well in her future endeavours and thank her for the service she has given the Party,” Selfe said.

The party added that the deputy mayor of Cape Town will be the acting mayor in the city.

This is a developing story.
