Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela told The Citizen the case was postponed for next year, January 13, and the teen would remain in police custody.
The teen was allegedly caught raping his five-year-old niece in Mofolo North, Southern Courier reported.
Makhubela said the toddler’s mother walked in on the teen allegedly raping the child on Saturday night. She immediately called police.
The girl was taken in for medical observation.
Police said the doctor assessing the child found that it was not the first time the child had been raped.
Last month, a case of rape was opened against an 11-year-old boy who allegedly raped a three-year-old girl in KaMhlushwa near Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
Police said the toddler’s older sister, who is also a minor, discovered this when she was bathing her that evening.
The victim reportedly told her sister her private parts were sore.
The sister asked the victim what had happened and the toddler told her what had happened, police said.
The sister then reported the matter to their neighbour, who notified the police and a case of rape was opened.
“The child was referred to a doctor and it was confirmed that indeed there had been penetration,” police added.
