A man assaulted and stoned in an apparent mob justice attack in Dobsonville, Soweto, has died in hospital, Gauteng police said on Monday.

He died in hospital on Sunday night, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

“He was in critical condition in hospital and due to the severity of his condition police had been unable to question the victim about the motive or people behind the crime,” he said.

In the same attack in Dobsonville Extension Two on Friday, another man was also assaulted and died on the scene.

Makhubela said when police got to the scene around 1am on Friday, the area was deserted.

“We did not find anyone in the street but discovered rocks and hammers around the victims. If there are people who know what happened they can contact police and assist with information,” he said.

The men had not yet being identified and police were tracing their relatives.
