Man arrested after taxi driver killed

A man handed himself in to police following the murder of a taxi driver, Gauteng police said on Friday.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the 30-year-old man handed himself in at the Johannesburg central police station on Thursday.

He allegedly shot dead a 30-year-old taxi driver in the early hours of Monday.

“The motive for the murder is not yet known and [the] police investigation is continuing. The suspect handed over also the firearm and it will be taken to ballistic testing.”

The man was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
