Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the  suspect, Johan Pieterse Vosloo, was arrested on Thursday, following a tip-off from community members.

“The suspect will appear in court on Monday. He was arrested yesterday in Three Rivers in the Vaal,” Dlamini said.

Police had been hunting for the man for some time, and he was believed to be in either Pretoria or Durban, Rekord East reported yesterday.

The alleged incident happened earlier this month while Vosloo’s girlfriend, 22-year-old Ines Antonio, was shopping with her daughter.

Vosloo reportedly arrived unannounced and grabbed the child to put her in his car, before pouring the acid over Antonio.

She reportedly sustained burns on large parts of her body, including her face and was said to be recovering at Chris Hani Baragwanath.

Dlamini added that Vosloo would face attempted murder charges when he appears in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
