Police charged the woman, dubbed “Monster Maid”, with torture under Sec. 41 of the Anti-Torture Act at the Nakawa Magistrates’ Court where she was remanded to Luzira Prison, Nehanda Radio reported.
The woman had been identified as Jolly Tumuhiirwe (22), who was later charged with attempted murder.
Tumuhiirwe shocked the world when video footage was uploaded depicting her brutally assaulting Arnella Kamanzi.
After being thrown to the floor, beaten and kicked around, Kamanzi was reportedly recovering and “doing well”.
The video footage of the incident has since been removed from YouTube.
Yesterday, Ugandan Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura announced stringent measures police planned to institute in hiring domestic house helpers.
Kayihura reportedly said police would help parents to carry out background checks for helpers hired through its Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU).
