Police are on the hunt for three suspects following an attempted hijacking outside Crawford Preparatory School in Lonehill, in the north of Johannesburg this morning.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the three male suspects tried to hijack a woman of her Porsche outside the school as she was dropping off her child.

When the hijacking attempt failed, the suspects allegedly fled in a white Subaru which, according to Muthan, had false number plates.

Police reportedly gave chase, but lost the suspects in the traffic, Fourways Review reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspects reportedly held up the school’s security guards with a pistol and a rifle.

No injuries were reported.

In a separate incident, CCTV footage of a woman being hijacked outside Kloof pre-primary school in KwaZulu-Natal went viral in July.

The video shows the woman, Susan West, parking her vehicle and exiting with her child in the school’s parking lot.

The suspects casually walk across the parking lot and hang around until an unsuspecting West returns.

It was believed that the suspects held West up by gunpoint just outside the view of the camera and demanded the keys to the vehicle.

Two members of the public then attempt to block the suspects in, but retreat when the hijackers point a firearm at them.

The suspects are then seen speeding off with the two motorists in pursuit.
