A man is due in court today following a road incident in which he allegedly ran over and dragged a woman under his car in Johannesburg.

Parkview police confirmed that the 48-year-old man had been arrested following the incident at the corner of William Nicol Drive and St Andrews Road in Hurlingham last week, Sandton Chronicle reported.

Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha said the man would face charges of reckless and negligent driving, and for a hit and run incident when he appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.

The woman involved had been in a critical condition following the incident.

ER24 said the woman had sustained multiple injuries to her head and chest after she was dragged under the light motor vehicle for some distance.

“It is understood that the incident occurred when the woman had stopped her vehicle to exchange her details with another driver after a minor collision. The driver apparently sped off, dragging the woman under the vehicle,” ER24 said.
