“Acting on information, the team arrested five suspects, aged between 35 and 45, minutes before they entered the targeted premises,” Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale said.
A firearm and a vehicle were confiscated. Two of the arrested men were South Africans and three were Zimbabweans.
“Three more suspects, who were on foot at the time, fled the scene and are still at large.”
Makgale said it was believed the men were part of a larger syndicate.
The five would appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
