The fire was reported around 11.20pm on Friday, said spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes. “At approximately 11.43pm upon arrival… forced entry was gained to the shack engulfed in flames. Six occupants evacuated the engulfed shack for safety,” he said.

The body of the three-year-old girl was discovered with severe burn wounds. By midnight the fire was brought under control, said Solomons-Johannes.

The cause of the fire was unknown. Police and fire services were investigating.
