Kempton Park police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali confirmed the incident happened at about 5pm on Monday, Kempton Express reported.

“The man, his wife and children had just arrived at their home,” said Mtshali.

“The man had already gone inside the house and the children were still in the car while their mother was closing the gate when three men approached her and she screamed… When the man came outside, it was alleged he tried to fight off one of the suspects when one of them fired the fatal shot.”

The suspects immediately fled on foot.

Police were called to the scene and arrived moments after the incident.

Mtshali added the man was rushed to Arwyp Medical Centre where he was certified dead at about 6.30pm.

A case of attempted hijacking is also under investigation.

Police appealed to anyone who might have information to call 086-00-1011 or send an SMS to CrimeLine on 32211.
