Video footage has emerged showing house robbers making a dramatic getaway following a shoot-out in Westcliff, Johannesburg.

24/7 Security Services general manager Geoff Schapiro said the perpetrators shot between 60 to 80 rounds at the security guards who were the first to arrive on the scene, Rosebank Killarney Gazette reported.

Shapiro added that there were six members in the gang who were engaged in the gun battle while making their way to the getaway vehicle during the suspected house robbery in October.

He emphasised that such an extreme rate of gunfire was unusual for house robberies in the area.

“The perpetrators also reversed into one of the security vehicles and then drove off towards Jan Smuts Avenue,” said Shapiro.

The white Mercedes Benz that the suspects had been travelling in was later recovered in Parktown.

After further investigation, police discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen during another house robbery in the Dunkeld area.

Cases of attempted murder, house robbery and hijacking are being investigated.

No arrests had been made and police urge members of the public to come forth with any information regarding the suspects: Parkview Police 011 486 5000.

In a separate incident, two men were arrested near the Buccleuch interchange in Midrand following a shoot-out with police last week.

The shooting started when at least four men hijacked a truck carrying cigarettes in Buccleuch.
