The Ivory Park police management is appealing to residents to help with any information regarding three suspects who are were said to be terrorising the area in the east of Johannesburg.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said three suspects entered a tenant’s room in Ivory Park, Extension 14, and shot them, The Tembisan reported.

The trio allegedly took R400 and a cellphone before fleeing the scene on Thursday, said Sekgobela. The couple was later admitted to hospital.

A case of two counts of attempted murder and house robbery is under investigation.

In a separate incident,  three suspects entered the room of a pregnant woman in the same area, where they demanded her cellphone and to have sex with her.

It was believed that the men took turns raping the woman, after she told them that she was pregnant and HIV positive.

Police urged residents to always keep large sums of cash in the bank; and to keep valuable items in a safe place.

Exchange phone numbers or establish signalling methods like a whistle, so that people can be made aware to provide support during an emergency, said Sekgobela.

In October, three suspects who had been planning to commit a robbery were arrested by the Johannesburg Flying Squad in Tembisa, near Ivory Park.

It was alleged that the suspects, aged between 38 and 47, had been preparing to commit a business robbery in Mpumalanga.
