The current load shedding schedules will only come into place once Eskom gives municipalities the go ahead to switch off.

All municipalities were issued with a notice, that should Eskom ask for load shedding to commence, it would happen at the time represented in the schedules, City Power spokesperson Hloni Motloung said on Monday.

“At the moment there is no communication from Eskom, asking us to load shed.”

He added that it would communicate with the public accordingly prior to load shedding, allowing the public ample time to make necessary arrangements.

“We will keep the people updated.”

Meanwhile, Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger has communicated that there would be no load shedding on Monday.

He added that despite this, consumers should use electricity sparingly as power systems were under pressure.

Coal conveyor systems have been damaged at the Majuba power station in Mpumalanga, after its storage silo cracked on Saturday.

Alternative measures have been put in place to deliver the coal which is needed, Eskom said.
