Video footage has emerged showing a domestic worker beating her employers’ 15-month-old baby with a hanger in Houghton, Johannesburg.

Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said a manhunt had been launched, North Eastern Tribune reported.

The mother of the baby and her husband had decided to view their house’s video footage, when they saw the shocking footage.

Two videos captured the domestic worker on separate occasions mishandling the baby.

In one video, the domestic worker is seen pulling the child by the arm and carelessly tossing her on to a bed before changing the baby’s diaper.

In the second video the woman is seen threatening the the 15-month-old girl and hitting her with a hanger.

The mother also claimed that the domestic worker allegedly left the floor polish open and the child swallowed the polish and some coins.

The mother said the child had been left unattended, and was seen playing with the water in the toilet bowl.

It was alleged the domestic worker once hit the baby on the head with the cord of an iron – after the mom had told her not to iron while the child was around.

Investigations are underway.

In July, CCTV footage showed an unidentified teacher beating a nine-month-old at a Krugersdorp pre-school on Gauteng’s West Rand.

The child’s father decided to upload the footage on YouTube in a bid to make the public aware of the “evils and challenges” within the preschool industry.
