No arrests have been made after a man allegedly raped a woman in front of her five-month-old baby in a banana plantation in Impenjati near Trafalgar in KwaZulu-Natal.

The woman was allegedly raped while on her way to buy airtime, as reported by South Coast Herald.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mafeka said the man had demanded that she take off her clothing. When she refused, he threatened to hit her with a rock.

When the woman continued to refuse to undress, the man allegedly threatened to kill her child with a knife.

The woman was said to have been raped twice in front of her child.

Investigations are underway.

Cases of mothers being raped in front of their children continue to be reported.

In a recent incident, a nurse at Helen Joseph hospital was allegedly raped, stabbed and beaten in the area of the hospital.

In a separate incident, a KZN woman was raped by a man identified to be her neighbour.

It was believed that the 23-year-old victim had been in the bathroom when her neighbour forced himself on her in Dunbar Road in Cato Manor.

The suspect allegedly threatened the woman with a firearm before raping her.
