Netcare911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said the cause of the shooting incident last night and preceding events would remain the subject of a police investigation.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a 40-year-old man was driving in his vehicle when he was shot at about 6pm,” said Steinmann.

“Upon arrival on the scene paramedics found that the man had sustained critical injuries during the shooting incident.”

Steinmann added that the man had been treated on scene and rushed to hospital under the care of an advance life support paramedic.

“Traffic was severely affected by the incident and authorities were on scene to assist with regulating the traffic,” she said.

Earlier this year, police said a Silver Opel Corsa with four alleged hijackers opened fire on a delivery vehicle as they tried to hijack the vehicle.

A man was shot and seriously wounded by hijackers in Hans Strijdom Drive in Silver Lakes, according to Rekord East.

It was believed that the driver of the Corsa had tried stop the delivery vehicle in an attempt to hijack the vehicle.

The four men inside the Corsa opened fire after they failed to stop the vehicle. No arrests had been made.
