The accused, Inspector Dalton Zulu Nyambi, 50, of Sibayeni village near the Swazi and Mozambican border, pleaded guilty to rape when appearing in the Tonga Regional Court on Tuesday.
Nyambi, a police officer attached to the Lebombo border port of entry, told the court that he had sex with the minor during a drinking spree on September 10, 2013, a Sapa correspondent reported.
He was arrested on December 3 that year.
He told the court he was a widower raising three boys and two girls.
He apologised and promised to visit the minor’s family to express his remorse.
Magistrate Edgar Moletsane postponed the case to Thursday.
