“He fled the scene and is still at large,” said Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
The girl died on arrival at a local hospital on Friday. Her mother was in a stable condition.
The one-year-old’s parents were arguing on Friday night when the father allegedly threw petrol over the woman and baby, who was on her mother’s back at the time, and set them alight.
