“Allegations of a serial killer being on the loose cannot be confirmed at this stage,” said the police’s Doniah Mothutsane.

According to various media reports, four women were murdered in East of Pretoria area last week alone, adding that they were strangled and raped.

Mothutsane said the this information was incorrect and that information on their Crime Reporting System indicated only two bodies were discovered in Mamelodi East last week.

“The two bodies were found dumped at two different places, with no evidence suggesting that the women might have been killed by the same person,” said Mothutsane.

“One body was found at an open space between the garage and the church while the other was found in the far East of Mamelodi at an informal settlement named (Waterkloof) just next to the dumping area.”

Mothutsane said evidence had been collected from both crime scenes and were sent to the laboratory for analysis.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Police said further allegations that children have been found killed and dumped in the mountains are unfounded and have appealed for calmness and vigilance in the community.
