The Umkhonto weSiswe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) continued its offensive against Public Protector Thuli Madonsela on Monday, accusing her of being in a 'race for media attention'.

MKMVA chairperson Kebby Maphatsoe said on several occasions the office of the Public Protector allowed itself to engage in public spats with the ruling party and its officials.

“This has come to characterise, not a healthy constitutional tension between the ruling party and Advocate Thuli Madonsela,” Maphatsoe said.

“It is becoming very clear that Advocate Thuli Madonsela oversteps her mandate, personalise issues and is in a race for media attention for reasons only known to her.”

Maphatsoe, who is the Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans was speaking to journalists at Luthuli House on Monday.

He said the MKMVA will not allow those who seek to destroy the ANC, to attempt their futile attempts giving an impression that they were members of MK.

“If Advocate Thuli Madonsela feels more powerful and above the constitution, she should tell the country who her handlers are?” Maphatsoe asked.

“She had had occasion to boast publicly about having been a former member of MK. We would also be interested to know who trained her, and where was she trained.”

He appealed to Madonsela to show maturity and  less fondness for publicity stunts.
