The police’s Michael Mbewe said police were alerted to the half-naked body of a young woman in her early 20s who was allegedly shot in the Khutsong area in the early hours of Monday morning.

A day later, police were alerted to the body of another young woman found at a local dumping sight in Mamelodi East Phase one.

Mbewe said the young woman was also naked but the cause of her death was unknown. Although police could not confirm the time of death they have indicated she may have died in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The second body was found around 5km from the body found on Monday, police said.

No arrests have been made in either case. Police would not say if either woman was raped.

Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said both cases were being investigated separately and that there was no information that pointed towards both murders being committed by the same person.

“The results of the autopsy will direct us in the proper direction,” said Maheso.
