A man accused of stabbing his neighbour to death appeared in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Free State police said.

The matter was postponed to September 11 for a formal bail application, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.

Moepa Mochale, 40, was arrested on August 16 after he allegedly stabbed his neighbour Petros Mokgatla in the ribs on the sidelines of a ritual ceremony in Matsieng village.

In an earlier police statement, Mophiring said the two got into a fight after eating and drinking.

Mokgatla ran into the house for help but died later.

Police were called to the scene and Mochale was arrested.
