Police have extended the manhunt to three, after a third suspect allegedly escaped from the Pretoria Regional Court on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Khensani Magoai said the suspect appeared on charges of armed robbery and he was remanded on custody after the case was postponed.

However this morning it was discovered that he was not among awaiting trial prisoners that were taken back to the correctional services.

“It is unknown how he escaped and an investigation is being conducted,” said Magoai.

Two other suspects also escaped custody on Wednesday before having to appear in the Pretoria high court. A court orderly as well as a police officer were shot during the escape.

“They came out of the holding cells into the court with firearms and started shooting,” said Magoai.

The two suspects allegedly hijacked a Ford Icon which was outside the court and later abandoned in Atteridgeville. Police said they then subsequently hijacked a red VW Polo.

The court orderly was slightly injured, while the police officer, who came to testify, was seriously injured according to police.

The two suspects who are now on the run were appearing for cases of house robbery and unlicensed firearm charges.

“The suspects will be charged with attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and hijacking,” police said.

Police are still searching for the suspects.
