“The City of Tshwane’s technicians managed to switch electricity back on to most areas in and around Highveld except for consumers in Heritage Hill,” spokesman Lindela Mashigo said in a statement.
“This follows an outage that was experienced as a result of attempted theft and vandalism of electricity cables at the Nivs substation in the early hours of yesterday [Monday] morning.”
Mashigo said due to the extent of damage caused the repairs took longer than expected.
Power was also restored in Soshanguve but Mashigo appealed to residents of block AA, CC, G, F and E to reduce electricity usage for the next 24 hours in the evenings to assist with the load on the electrical network.
“The city’s technicians moved swiftly to switch power back on following power failure that was experienced in Soshanguve in the early hours of this morning due to two main feeder cable faults that supply the CC substation,” he said.
