Alberton CPF Sector 1 chairperson Aubrey Myburgh told The Citizen that the woman had sustained serious burn injuries to her face, neck and arms.

“She was badly burned and was taken to hospital,” Myburgh said this morning.

“Police, security companies and members of the community are still searching for the suspect who is well-known in the area.”

The incident was said to have taken place at about 7am this morning on Kerk Street in South Crest, Alberton.

It remains unclear what caused the man to petrol bomb the woman’s vehicle.

Alberton Crime Lookouts appealed for assistance on Facebook.

“Am chasing the guy who burnt car in bushes next to Eewufees Street and this is running down to highway am alone so I leave him cause there’s big rocks,” reads on the Facebook posts.

“Suspect still in the area, SAPS and security looking, anyone that able to assist please make your way to South Crest.”

Myburgh said the suspect was still on the run, as the search continued in the afternoon.
