A positive identification has yet to be made after a teenage girl was allegedly raped, stabbed and set on fire in Madadeni, KwaZulu-Natal.

The charred remains of the 17-year-old’s body were all that was left on a property in Section 7, while the girl’s head remained untouched by the flames, according to the Newcastle Advertiser.

KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that no arrests had been made following the discovery of the girl’s body on Sunday morning and have appealed to the community for information pertaining to the case.

Last year, 18-year-old Sandy Maharla’s body was found burnt almost beyond recognition in a field in Eldorado Park in the south of Johannesburg.

Maharla was believed to have been raped prior to be killed.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the murder; however, he was released after police failed to link him to the crime.
