Manhunt after Sandton man killed in front of wife

No arrests have been made following the death of a man who was murdered in front of his wife in Sandton, Johannesburg, police said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old man died on the scene after suspects fired a number of shots at him on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete told The Citizen on Tuesday morning that police were investigating a murder docket.

“The incident happened at about 5pm on 6th Avenue in Inanda. The 38-year-old woman arrived at his home and was approached by two male suspects, both armed,” said Cloete.

In a statement, Cloete said the suspects banged on the woman’s car window, causing her to reverse and subsequently drive into the garage.

“The suspects followed, and she saw her husband approaching. The suspects fired numerous shots at him and he fell down,” she said.

The suspects allegedly fled the scene without taking anything.

Police were unable to confirm whether the robbers were part of a gang following reports of gang-related shootings in the area recently.

In April, a police officer was injured and a suspected robber was shot dead following a shoot-out in Sandton.

Police confiscated three guns and one cellphone, and remain in the process of linking the incident with other robberies in the area.
