Police were unable to provide details on when the suspects would be appearing in court, as investigations were on-going.
Video footage of the attempted kidnapping of twins from a pharmacy in the Zambezi Junction Shopping Centre in Montana in northern Pretoria went viral this week.
Dale Ribbink, the father of the children, posted two CCTV videos on his Facebook page of two separate yet similar incidents that appear to involve the same suspects.
In the first video, two female suspects are seen showing interest in a woman and her four-year-old twins who were in a shopping trolley.
When the mother turns her back on her son and daughter, one suspect takes hold of the trolley with the children inside it and casually strolls out of the pharmacy.
The mother is then seen running after the suspect, with the second suspect following her. The mother confronts the suspect who just walks away with her accomplice.
Ribbink said when his wife confronted her the woman said she was just making a joke.
“My wife was in shock and only realised what had happened once they were gone. I am still in shock,” he said.
A second part of the video shows an earlier incident at the same pharmacy. One of the woman, accompanied by a man, is seen harassing a mother at the cash register. It appears as though the duo were attempting to distract the woman in a bid to snatch her son.
Ribbink said, “The police have taken two suspects into custody. They were at the local Fruit and Veg, and stole a woman’s cell phone. Hopefully they can catch the other two.”
Public Servant News Network Johannesburg said four suspects were believed to have fled the scene in a white VW Polo.
