Heavily armed members of the police tactical team surrounded the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court where Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir and seven others were expected to appear on Friday.

Police and security guards searched everyone at the door before allowing journalists and those attending other cases to enter.

Only SABC television cameras were allowed inside.

A security guard said only the public broadcaster had applied to film proceedings. Other cameramen had to wait outside the courtroom.

Radovan Krejcir and his co-accused are in court for alleged conspiracy to kill police colonel Nkosana “Killer” Ximba and forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan.

Radovan Krejcir’s co-accused are Siboniso Miya, Owen Serero, Zodumo Biyela, ex-crime intelligence Sergeant Nandi Nkosi, Welcome Nkanyiso Mafunda, Siphiwe Memela, and his accountant, Mike Grigorov.

Charges against another accused, Jacob Nare, were dropped.
